Family Communication 1.30.26
January 30, 2026
Dear BCHS Families,
I am writing to inform you that at approximately 10:30 a.m. today, about 35 students left campus to participate in the nationally-promoted walkout in response to recent events involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). BCHS administration and staff, in coordination with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), worked to support student safety and supervision.
While this activity was not endorsed by Boulder Creek High School or the Deer Valley Unified School District, our priority remains the safety, well-being, and learning of all students. We continue to expect that any expression of views, whether on or off campus, is conducted peacefully, respectfully, and without disrupting the learning environment or compromising student or campus safety.
Although students are strongly encouraged to remain on campus during the school day, we would like to share the following information regarding today’s events:
- Leaving campus or walking out of class resulted in an unexcused absence.
- Once students left campus, school staff were not available to supervise them; however, MCSO accompanied students as they walked to Anthem Park.
- In accordance with established procedures, staff did not stop or confront students who chose to leave campus.
- Students who participated in the walkout were permitted to return to campus and signed in through the office.
- Regular attendance procedures remained in effect.
- Administration coordinated with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to support safety and security outside of campus.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing the importance of student safety and remaining on campus during the school day. I also want to thank MCSO for their help and support.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Brittany Sutton

Black Canyon City Student Transportation Update 9.4.25
September 4, 2025
Good Afternoon BCHS Families,
I am reaching out to share our transportation plan for Black Canyon City students to Boulder Creek High School beginning Monday, September 8th. Canon School District is still working on staffing a bus driver to take over the route permanently; however, until that happens, DVUSD has developed the following plan to ensure students from Black Canyon City have transportation to Boulder Creek High School. Because these are additional routes for our transportation system, please understand that additional time is required so that buses and drivers are available to safely transport students.

- Pick Up Time: 6:13 am

Students who have normal, supervised after-school activities may go to those as usual.
DVUSD transportation will be dry-running the bus today and tomorrow to get a more accurate pick-up and drop-off time. I will send additional communication if times change, so you have the correct information for Monday morning.
Thank you again for your support as we work together to support your students. I am grateful for the DVUSD community that has rallied, including transportation, district office staff, and BCHS teachers and staff, to ensure students have a safe way to school each and every day.
Please reach out to me directly if you have any questions or need additional support or information.
Sincerely,
Brittany Sutton
