About the Teacher:
Dear Students and Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your teenager to what is going to be an exciting and promising school year. In this 9th grade algebra classroom, it is my hope that you will develop an understanding of how important the building blocks of Algebra is to you for when you will venture into the higher levels of mathematics and out into the world as an adult.
I imagine that you would like to know more about me, as well as my philosophy of teaching. My name is Tracy McKernan and I am a native of Phoenix, Arizona. I have been married for 18 years and I have a son named Clinton who is a sophomore at Greenway High School, a daughter named McKayla who is a kindergartener at Desert Sage Elementary School, and a daughter named Rachael who is still in daycare. I am a product of Glendale Union High School District, for I am a 1993 graduate of Washington High School. I have always enjoyed working with children from all my years of being in Girl Scouts. It wasn’t until after high school that I realized that my place was with high school students. I feel that I can make a difference in what are the most important times of these students’ lives. I want to help improve our future, by teaching our future.
I graduated from Arizona State University West with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with a specialization in mathematics, and I also have a Middle School Endorsement. I am also a recipient of The National Dean List of University Students from the 2005 school year.
During my studies at ASUW, I had learned that no child is the same. Each child presents their own needs and has their own abilities. It is my job to address each need and to use each ability to reach the students full potential. I can assure you that I am well qualified to teach this class, and that I am dedicated to my students learning. I will be monitoring each and every student’s progress and will keep a close contact between parent, student and myself. The goal is to work as a team and the team is us. We can win every challenge if we work together. By having full confidence and giving full encouragement from you and myself, I can and will provide the best education possible for your student.
I am anticipating a great year with your teenager. I know they will enjoy my class as well as I will enjoy having them in my class.
Sincerely, Mrs. McKernan
